New Slang

Zach Braff: "What are you listening to?"
Natalie Portman: "Its the Shins, you know em? Listen, itll change your life."
New Slang by the Shins plays in the background

*a scene from Garden State (Natalie Portman)

You know how some songs really nail a certain feeling, moment or a person, and whenever you think about that/them, that one song comes to mind. like a soundtrack. New slang is the perfect one for stuck, disillusioned, twentysomething men like me.

Total Bliss

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Total Bliss is……

1. Listening to Chutes too Narrow by the Shins mp3s at 192 bitrate on your headphones.
;( until your friends starts to talk to you in the middle of the album…
2. Reaching a point in a relationship where you know that you truly LOVE her, in the most basic and classic sense.
;( then that feeling passes by.

Film Views and Reviews

Sunday, October 16th, 2005

I like movies thats a fact, but ive been increasingly getting really hard to please. Maybe its a sign of me becoming cynical (cine-cal, this my friend is a pun, a very disgusting one at that) or maybe this will come to a point where ill be so fed up with crappy movies that i will become a movie director myself (and make crappy movies myself); speaking of movies here are recent ones ive seen and with complimentOrlandobloomary comments;

Red Eye - the villain shouldve been another guy, one that was disarmingly charming, the guy in this one was evil looking no matter the illusion of being nice they were trying to do one the early part, the villain was very weak, it wouldve made the world of difference were he was much more cunning and not so inept.    4/10

Kingdom of Heaven - MISCAST, i liked Legolas but Orlando Bloom better have another day job, his facial expression is so limited and the way he speaks should make him forever stuck in supporting roles but sadly thats not the case, he dragged this movie into mediocrity and into the annals of WTF casting moves. imagine if it was Eric Bana or Clive Owen. WTF indeed! 3/10

Perfect Catch - romatic comedies, after being dragged by the lady (i wanted to see Constant Gardener) i find myself watching a well made chick flick, but far from perfect. The obligatory lover’s conflict was never really that major to warrant a breakup, i understood the point but the film didnt really made a home run (ha! another pun) with it. And this is a complaint that i generally associate with romantic comedies, the characters are always so endearing and good looking (Drew B. youre so sexy) and the relationship so utopian that i find myself suspending my beliefs because real-life relationships are anything but that, i always find pleasure on movies that has scenes that ring truer to real-life (Sunshine of the spotless mind, almost famous). 7/10

im starting to NOT making any sense. :)

Close Encounters of the Thieving Kind

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

While going home from work, the passenger jeepney i rode on picked up a large burly man with an equaly large backpack, he also wore a baseball cap. Upon climbing inside the jeep, he proceeded to sit in between two women which is suspect since most would opt to sit on any more vacant space. He sat his backpack on his lap and after awhile nobody noticed anything until he told the driver to stop and climbed down from the vehicle. It turned out the backpack served to hide his other arm that was fishing things out of the passsenger lady beside him, it was a good thing the lady caught his arm and the theif didnt panic and just went down off the jeep. So people beware of a large man carrying a large backpack.

Christopher Walken guy

i attended a half-day seminar at the Mandaya hotel which has rooms named after native sounding names which is confusing but cool, anyways before the seminar i had absolutely no idea what it was all about, all i heard was free merienda, so i signed in. Turns out it was one of those hybrid free seminar/product demo anyways the guy conducting the seminar, a Mr. Manual Alcuaz, started to talk and i couldnt help but be reminded of Christopher Walken with all his mannerisms and heavy sorta huffing then pausing voice. He was a little pompous but nice, very used to seminars. Halfway into the seminar i got very bored and i looked around the room and less than half of the people were left, he shouldve promised the merienda at the end of the seminar….

Reevermaya

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

Caught the premiere of Rivermaya’s new tune called "Sunday Driving" at MYX. impeccable video to a very tight song. I once saw Mr. Blanco interviewed on TV and he came off as an all-knowing, calculating controlling jerk. still if he churns  out hi-quality songs then God bless jerks like him.

Music soothes the savage man

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

Well if theres one thing you can do simultaneously with anything is listening to music, and over the course of my last update, i have now moved to indie alternative rock music pallete, i am now listening to the Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco and the Postal Service. Probably the staples of the genre that is now all the rage at the US, the OC effect. Hmmm, my extreme fickle nature is apparent in my shifting musical preferences. Let’s see the bands occupying my airwaves from the yesteryears to the now.

Milli Vanilli > Color me Badd > Guns N Roses > Pearl Jam > Nirvana > Eraserheads > Wolfgang > Bush > Korn > Incubus > Tool > At-the-Drive-In > Taking Back Sunday > The Strokes > Bloc Party > Death Cab for Cutie

As you can see, i have traversed the whole spectrum of rock music (well except for the two first ones, forgive me, i was only 10!). the one thing i cannot, for the life of me, bring myself to like, is death metal.  I consider myself open minded… i can see the allure of bubblegum pop, country music, folk, jazz, hip-hop, r & b, but ive given up on salvaging any artistry of unkempt men dressed in unfailing black growling about Satan and death.

A rare feeling of being bloggy

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

Well, well, well…. Waddya know? I finally gotten around to updating my blog, what with all these readying for work, big tasks at work, fatigue from work, and thinking about work, Man, i desperately need a vacation or better yet a raise. Anyway, what will follow will be a salvo of blog updates as i have now found myself with enough time to channel my thoughts to my fingers.
